Newport--The Newport Harbor Inn
Leaving the Point Judith ferry terminal, you drive north until you reach the turn-off for the Jamestown Bridge. Another, larger toll bridge brings you from the island of Jamestown into Newport.
We somehow managed to talk our way into a waterfront condominium at the Newport Harbor Inn for the owner's price, less than half of the $260 rack rate. Our condo was on the fourth floor, but I went up to the roof deck to shoot some pictures of the harbor.
In the foreground, some trawlers waited dockside while, out beyond Goat Island, a cruise ship exited the harbor. The Newport-Jamestown bridge is visible in the deep background.
A glance toward the left brought the Ida Lewis Yacht Club, the former host of the America's Cup races, into view.
St. Mary's Church, the site of the JFK-Jacqueline Bouvier wedding, is just up the hill on Spring Street.
