
Gloucester annually hosts a gathering of schooners and a schooner race. This two-master heads back to port under red sails.

Gloucester has a reputation as a blue-collar town, but membership in the Eastern Point Yacht club is expensive and exclusive.

The Dog Bar is a breakwater that extends from Eastern Point far into the harbor opening, protecting the harbor from southerly storms.

At the head of the harbor, a few of the schooners tie up after the race. The small double-ender is the
Fame from Salem. This is the working section of town: the fish pier, the workingman's pubs such as the Crow's Nest Inn of novel and movie reknown, and a bit farther west, Gorton's of Gloucester.
