On Saturday, my son Matthew Paul married his long-time sweetheart, Christine. The wedding and reception were held at the Lord Jeffrey Inn, adjacent to the campus of Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts.
Christine always looks lovely, but on this day, she was stunning. She was attended by her sister, also beautiful and made more so by her pregnancy. Matt's best man, David, has been his running mate from first grade through their track co-captaincy at Trinity College, and beyond. You couldn't have a better friend.
After a meal of tapas and paella, the guests danced to an 8-piece band with a funky horn section. I found that ample draughts of sangria kept my joints lubricated enough for a reprise of my 60's and 70's dance moves (but no disco, thank you). My lady friend, with her warm and upbeat manner, was a huge hit with family members and friends who had not yet met her. She even managed to get my once-shy nephew, Gordon, to lead a conga line.
I was honored that the couple included in the ceremony a Yeats poem I had suggested, which was read beautifully by my daughter Erin Kate:
Aedh Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven
Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
I was also delighted when they chose for their first wedded dance the song Brand New Day by Van Morrison--lyrics I had published in this journal just before New Year's Eve.
The couple returned to their home in Georgetown on Sunday, and left for ten days on Turks and Caicos on Monday.

Now THIS is what I've been waiting for. She is absolutely lovely and so, actually, is he. And it sounds like the wedding was, too.
A fairy-tale union made in heaven. Best wishes to them! From what I can glean, it seems your son is handsome, well-educated, settled in a successful career, and now blissfully wedded. You must be feeling exceedingly happy and relieved--all of a parent's hopes and dreams come true (:

Beautiful couple. Love the poem.
What a perfectly perfect wedding! They are definitely a stunningly gorgeous couple!
The Yeats poem brought tears to my eyes. How lovely and perfect for the occasion!
Does the handsome young couple scuba dive? Of all the islands I've visited, I'll never forget the beautiful tropical fish that I saw in the waters of T&C.
One question is lurking in my dirty mind...how did the ex react to your charming and engaging lady friend?

Oh, how lovely! Congratulations to you all.
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams....
I think that describes marriage beautifully.
A very attractive and happy couple! Our best wishes to the both of them.
You must be proud.
