Our last day in London was filled with not one, but two theater performances, separated only by a quick fish 'n' chips dinner. The first show was Phantom of the Opera, after which our students were given a private backstage audience with the stage manager, who explained how several of the intricate scenes were staged. The second venue featured The Producers. We sat laughing uproariously in the second balcony, so it was difficult to gauge how the British patrons down on the main floor were reacting to "Springtime for Hitler and Germany".
The afternoon and evening posed several questions: Would I ever be mature enough to enjoy the type of singing in Phantom? Would I ever be mature enough to outgrow Mel Brooks' puerile humor? And just what kind of fish is that in English fish 'n' chips?
The answers were no, no, and I don't want to know.
On Wednesday, we would be setting out for Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Liverpool.

This girl who went berserk over those 4 guys and didn't see their hometown when I went to England is keen for the next entry. Your ways with words make for a delightful travel diary.
*debbi*
Probably cod. Or haddock.
Looking forward to more.
Well.....when I hear my dd sing Phantom songs, I think they're wonderful.
As for The Producers, I had a student (Orthodox Jewish of course) who was a movie fanatic and LOVED that one. Now if your sense of humor is at the level of that (very) young man's, maybe I should fear for YOUR students.
Hmmmmmmm...this entry made me think of Cole Porter...
If I invite a boy some night
To dine on my fine

But my heart belongs to Daddy...
