Mohegan Bluffs

The Mohegan Bluffs face the Atlantic along the south side of Block Island. The bluffs take a battering, and are gradually wearing away despite their rocky cragginess.
Boulders broken off from the cliffs testify to the eroding of the bluffs.

You can reach most of the way to the shingle below the bluffs by way off a wooden staircase. I'd guess the number of stairs to be around 240.

The staircase ends above the level of most storm surges, but the footing to the bottom is not difficult.

After my failure to catch bonito at the north side off the island, I decided to drown a seaclam in quest of stripers here at the south side. The St. Croix kept vigil while we read on the beach, but, once again, the fish decided to roundly ignore me and my offerings.

Later in the afternoon, the sun glints off to the southwest, and we decide its time to ascend the stairs and take our leave. Going up, I revise my estimate of the number of stairs to 1,240.
